Those of you who pay by direct debit need do nothing more. For those who still pay by cheque, please remember to do so promptly (by the end of April). Once again, please can we encourage those of you without a direct debit to set one up. Every year we remove members for non-payment of fees. If you are intending not to continue membership, please let us know in writing at the time the subscriptions become due. It is what justifies the legislation, the funding and the practice of conservation. The summer school will look at how citizens and communities can become more engaged in caring for the historic environment, and how the value of heritage can thus be enhanced. Venue: St George’s Hall, Liverpool (Accommodation: Adelphi Hotel) In 2008 Liverpool will be the European Capital of Culture. 2007 is the 800th anniversary of the city’s Royal Charter. Much of the waterfront and the city centre is now a world heritage site. As we move towards 2008, the city is experiencing tremendous change and re-establishing itself as one of the world’s great maritime cities. The summer school will celebrate conservation, and the past and future of Liverpool. We will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the IHBC. Put the dates in your diary now and don’t miss out on this historic event. Cathedral Communications has recently released the 13th annual edition of Historic Churches, a ‘Special Report’ of The Building Conservation Directory. As arranged by IHBC’s membership secretary Mike Lea, each IHBC member who has asked to receive relevant promotional mailings will have received a copy by post.
