The Merchant City walking tour and The Briggait site visit
The Merchant City area
in Glasgow has undergone a dramatic transformation in the past two decades. Previously
redundant historic buildings now house theaters and galleries, interspersed with
shops, cafes, boutique hotels and restaurants. This walking tour, focusing on how
the regeneration was funded and project managed, will be lead by Liz Davidson from
the Merchant City Townscape Heritage Initiative. The tour will culminate in a visit
to The Briggait, the city’s old fishmarket, which has recently been transformed into
a vibrant new home for over 80 visual artists and cultural organisations.
