Practical Information

About Glasgow

Over the past two decades, Glasgow has famously transformed itself into one of the most dynamic and vibrant cities in Europe. A recent Visit Britain survey saw Glasgow in the top 5 visitor destinations in the UK, with many visitors saying they come to Glasgow to find out more about the stories behind its history. Statistics show heritage in Scotland as a whole as being worth in excess of £2.3 billion, with Glasgow strongly contributing to this total. Glasgow has been able to achieve this success in no small part by recognising, and investing in, one of its most unique assets; its built heritage.

As the city prepares to take center-stage as proud hosts of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in 2014, regeneration of the built environment has never been higher on the agenda.

The Venues

Investing In The Past will be held at two category A-listed historic buildings in the centre of the City- Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket and the City Chambers. The Old Fruitmarket is an outstanding example of how an historic building which has outgrown its original use has reinvented itself as a 21st century enterprise, harnessing its heritage and the story it has to tell about the past. Glasgow City Chambers, the city’s magnificent council headquarters, is an eminent example of Victorian opulence in the centre of George Square.
